Since 2012, the Company has been committed, alongside the LVMH wine and spirits division, to promoting the responsible enjoyment of our cognacs, without affecting health. In this aim, we have drawn up a responsible drinking policy as a basis that each employee must know and practise every day. This constant focus on providing information and education is also part of an action programme, in addition to the Company’s legislative commitment.
As leader of the cognac industry – which brings together 50,000 people – and leading exporter in its region, the Company is in dialogue with 1,600 partner wine growers, 20 exclusive distillers, and the local cooperage, glass-making, packaging and logistics industries (50% of our sourcing is local and 85% in France). Based on the knowledge of Charente tradition, we operate in the heart of the region where we were founded and support the development of jobs that cannot be off-shored.
The Company has nearly 1,000 employees, more than 200 of whom have been recruited since 2012. Irrespective of their role and qualifications, each person is supported in their individual development by training initiatives. In parallel, the Company encourages mobility and equality in employment and promotes openness and exchange through cross-departmental projects. Finally, we support learning and protect knowledge through intergenerational teaching programmes.
Personal health and safety are core Company priorities and are given special attention through specific measures. An increase in our activities leads us to store large quantities of brandy, which are subject to specific standards and must be under constant surveillance. This surveillance system includes the constant presence of a team of in-house firefighters at all sites and training initiatives held for employees.
As part of a sustainability approach which is inherently aimed at future generations, Maison Hennessy is committed to a comprehensive environmental protection scheme. Promoting sustainable viticulture, the reasonable use of natural resources, proactive waste treatment, ecological packaging design and the implementation of HQE certification on our sites: in each of our fields, the Company has established a virtuous circle of responsibility, on a regional scale.
